At first blush the RLS requirements look very similar to what an off the shelf MPI solution can offer. However there are significant security and privacy issues involved with a regional deployment that must be addressed. While there have been many breaches, none has highlighted the need to take privacy and security of demographic information more seriously than the VA laptop theft incident. Crypto-RLS™ platform achieves a secure, performant solution to record linkage in the distributed system by using a blinded directory for centralized demographic data. A set of techniques are implemented to cryptographically (one-way) hash the aggregated data to ensure that patient demographic data stored in the centralized index is unrecoverable. Crypto-RLS™ is the only available solution to provide hashing based security for data-at-rest while enabling advanced probabilistic record linking.
