CareEvolution Announces RHIO HeadStart™ To Accelerate Deployment of Patient Information Sharing Initiatives

A Revolutionary Program Offering Capital and Technology Grants to Select Communities Ready to Execute Patient Data Sharing Initiatives

WASHINGTON, D.C., and ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN., April 11, 2006 -

CareEvolution, Inc. announced that it is accepting applications from established Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIO) and health care providers for RHIO HEADSTART , an innovative program offering financial and technology grants to support qualified applicants that are prepared to execute on their plans for health information exchange. The new program - which will award three grants worth between $100,000 and $ 250,000 each - is a part of CareEvolutions commitment to connecting healthcare, and it comes soon after the companys announcement of the availability of its RHIO Technology Platform.
CareEvolution, Inc. announced the initiative at the eHealth Initiatives Third Annual Connecting Communities Learning Forum, held in Washington, DC. The forum is focused on improving health and healthcare through the mobilization of information. Despite advances in site-specific electronic medical records, attempts to link records amongst healthcare organizations are just getting started. Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIO) have emerged as an organizational strategy for enabling healthcare providers to share clinical data electronically.

The ability to quickly move from the planning, governance, and policy phases to actual implementation of clinical data exchanges so physicians and other caregivers can the actually see and feel the value of the RHIO idea is not just critical for building momentum but also to the very survival of the RHIO initiative within a community. Our review of early efforts highlights that it is critical to effect the transition from the study of the idea of data exchange to actually showing it working for real patients. This transition is key to insuring that caregivers remain engaged in the process. So, RHIO HEADSTART is our way of helping communities accelerate the actual deployment of working pilots, said Vik Kheterpal, MD a principal at CareEvolution, Inc. . This grant is about helping those who have already resolved local policy, governance, and political issues and are actually ready to get something done, added Kheterpal.

Details about the grant program, application process, selection criteria, and timeline are available at
